Cemetery Regulations

What’s Allowed at Oakdale

Oakdale permits flat granite and bronze markers throughout most of the park, with upright granite monuments allowed in Sections F, G, and H (flat markers are also an option there). The east curb of Elm and Sections D and G are upright only, no flat markers. Every marker needs one of three edge treatments: a 2-inch sanded border, a 2-inch beveled edge, or an LMP (lawn mower proof) edge. The Garden of Guadalupe section requires Oxford granite in the 32″ × 20″ size with an LMP edge. All headstones must be approved by Oakdale before delivery.

Baby / Cremation 18″ × 9″

The smallest flat marker at Oakdale, for baby or cremation spaces, with a 1-inch sanded border.

Single / Companion 28″ × 16″

The standard marker size for a single or companion space, permitted throughout the park.

Standard 32″ × 20″

A larger single-space marker. Call ahead so we can verify your grave’s exact size before ordering.

Side by Side 36″ × 18″

A companion marker set across two adjacent single spaces.

30″ × 39″ (Half-Ledger)

A larger flat marker with room for a photo portrait and extra artwork or inscription.

Bronze 24″ × 12″ or 28″ × 16″

Oakdale allows bronze markers in these two sizes only, cast with soft-bronze attachment bolts on the back face.

Upright Monument

Permitted in Sections F, G, and H alongside flat markers. Required, with no flat option, on the east curb of Elm and in Sections D and G.

Oakdale allows our full palette of 18 granite colors in most sections. The Garden of Guadalupe requires Oxford granite specifically.

Setting & Installation

Who Sets the Stone at Oakdale

How It Works

What we handle: Design, engraving, and delivery. We coordinate with Oakdale’s office on paperwork and grave verification, so your marker is ready to set as soon as it arrives.

Who sets the marker: Oakdale’s own grounds crew sets every marker in the park. They only accept deliveries Monday through Friday between 9am and 3pm, so we schedule around that window.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Oakdale

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Oakdale?

In-stock flat and bronze markers are ready in 2–4 weeks. Special orders may take longer; we’ll let you know up front. Once we deliver to Oakdale, their own crew sets the marker on site.

What are the setting fees at Oakdale?

Oakdale charges an installation fee based on marker size, paid directly to the cemetery and due at the time of delivery along with authorization from the property owner and next of kin. Flat markers 28″ × 16″ are $495. A 32″ × 20″ marker runs $595 to $795 depending on the exact grave size, which we’ll verify for you. Anything larger than 32″ × 20″ is $795. Infant and niche markers are $295, and a mausoleum crypt plate is $395. Endowment care is included in the installation fee, not billed separately.

Do you handle the approval process with Oakdale?

Yes. Every design goes through our office first. Oakdale requires headstones to be approved before delivery, and anything that doesn’t meet their specifications gets refused at the gate, so we submit your proof to their office and confirm approval before your marker ever leaves our factory.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Oakdale?

On site engraving is one of our specialties at most Southern California cemeteries, but Oakdale handles inscriptions on existing memorials in house through their own office. To add a name, date, or inscription to a memorial already at Oakdale, contact the Oakdale office directly at (626) 691-2000.

About the Park

A San Gabriel Valley Landmark Since 1890

A Place in Glendora Since 1890

Founded in 1890 when citizens of Glendora, Azusa, Covina, and Santa Ana pooled together to buy the original 20 acres after the older Fairmount Cemetery ran out of room.

Oakdale was incorporated on July 9, 1890. The park grew to its current 118 acres with a 1925 expansion onto neighboring orange-grove land, and a crematory and on-site funeral home were added in 1968.

Families from across the San Gabriel Valley use Oakdale, including Glendora, Azusa, Covina, West Covina, San Dimas, and La Verne.

Ownership: Private, for-profit. Owned and operated by Service Corporation International under the Dignity Memorial brand.
