Setting & Installation

Who Sets the Stone at Bardsdale

How It Works

What we handle: Design, engraving, and delivery. We submit your design to the Bardsdale Cemetery District Board of Trustees for approval, coordinate the delivery schedule with the cemetery manager, and bring the finished memorial to the grounds on the scheduled day.

Who sets the marker: The setting of every memorial at Bardsdale is performed by employees of the Bardsdale Cemetery District. Outside companies are not permitted to install monuments on the grounds. This is District policy.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Bardsdale

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Bardsdale?

Once the Bardsdale Cemetery District Board of Trustees approves the design, most Flat Markers are ready in 2–6 weeks. After we deliver to the cemetery, the District’s grounds crew typically sets the marker within 2–3 weeks.

What are the setting and endowment fees at Bardsdale?

Bardsdale Cemetery District charges a setting fee and an endowment care fee, both billed separately from the memorial. Fees vary by marker size. The endowment care fund is a savings account that funds the long term maintenance of the grounds; every cemetery district in California is required by law to maintain one. Contact the Bardsdale Cemetery District office directly for current fee amounts: (805) 524-3877.

Do you handle the approval process with the Cemetery District?

Yes. Every memorial at Bardsdale requires Board of Trustees approval before installation. The District reviews the design, and once it’s approved, we schedule the delivery date directly with the cemetery manager. The whole process runs through our office—no trip to Fillmore on your end.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Bardsdale?

Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Bardsdale Cemetery. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on site engraving →

About the Cemetery

The Only Cemetery Serving Fillmore & Bardsdale

A Historic District Cemetery

Founded 1895, on land that was once part of the Rancho Sespe grant.

Bardsdale Cemetery was established in 1895, only a few years after the town of Bardsdale itself was laid out by real estate developer Royce G. Surdam on 1,500 acres of the old Rancho Sespe land grant. The cemetery operated as an association until July 20, 1914, when it became the Bardsdale Cemetery District under the California Health and Safety Code.

Families from across the surrounding Heritage Valley communities are laid to rest at Bardsdale, including Fillmore, Piru, and Santa Paula.

Ownership: Independent special district. Governed by a five member Board of Trustees under the California Health and Safety Code.
