Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations
Bardsdale Cemetery has clear, consistent rules across the entire grounds: Flat Markers only, in three permitted sizes. Upright Monuments were once permitted at Bardsdale, but the District has since updated its rules, and uprights are no longer allowed anywhere in the cemetery. Every memorial requires Board of Trustees approval before installation.

Single Granite Marker 28″ × 16″ × 3″
(sizes include a 2 inch sanded border). The most common memorial at Bardsdale.

Bardsdale allows our full palette of 18 granite colors, plus a bronze option for the 28″ × 16″ × 3″ size.

Do you handle everything with Bardsdale?
Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork, cemetery approval, and delivery coordination. No separate calls to Bardsdale on your end.
What are Bardsdale’s visiting hours?
Bardsdale Cemetery is open to visitors daily from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm April through October, and 8:00 am to 5:30 pm November through March. For holiday hours or section access questions, call the cemetery office at (805) 524-3877.
What types of memorials are allowed at Bardsdale?
Bardsdale allows flat granite markers only, in three permitted sizes. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size and section rule.
Why can’t I buy the headstone from the cemetery?
Bardsdale Cemetery is a public cemetery district, and California law prohibits public cemeteries from selling memorials. Families buy the marker from a monument company like ours, and the District installs it for a setting fee.
What are the setting and endowment fees at Bardsdale?
As of September 14, 2026, Bardsdale Cemetery District charges a $600 setting fee, billed separately from the memorial and paid directly to the District. Endowment care is included in this fee, so there’s no separate charge. The endowment care fund is a savings account that funds the long term care of the grounds; every cemetery district in California is required by law to maintain one. Who installs the marker at Bardsdale?
Bardsdale’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial, and their team handles the installation. The setting fee covers it.
How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Bardsdale?
In-stock flat markers are ready in 2–6 weeks once the Bardsdale Cemetery District Board of Trustees approves the design. Special orders may take longer; we’ll let you know up front. After we deliver to the cemetery, the District’s grounds crew typically sets the marker within 2–3 weeks.
Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Bardsdale?
Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Bardsdale Cemetery. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. The Only Cemetery Serving Fillmore & Bardsdale
Founded 1895, on land that was once part of the Rancho Sespe grant.
Bardsdale Cemetery was established in 1895, only a few years after the town of Bardsdale itself was laid out by real estate developer Royce G. Surdam on 1,500 acres of the old Rancho Sespe land grant. The cemetery operated as an association until July 20, 1914, when it became the Bardsdale Cemetery District under the California Health and Safety Code.
Families from across the surrounding Heritage Valley communities are laid to rest at Bardsdale, including Fillmore, Piru, and Santa Paula.
