Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations

Calvary’s Rules: What’s Allowed

Calvary is a Catholic cemetery operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, so every memorial follows the Archdiocese’s own installation rules. Markers must be granite or bronze, only one flush-type memorial is allowed per grave, and no marking may extend above the surface of the ground, so upright monuments are not permitted here. Every memorial must include a cross, properly proportioned and worked into the design. Engraving highlights are limited to black or white lithochrome; colored paint is not permitted and any memorial finished with it will be removed. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge is highly recommended. Families who choose a straight edge instead must sign a waiver at the cemetery office acknowledging possible damage, since Calvary will not repair or remake a memorial installed that way.

V.J. Memorials is the place to go if you are looking for a headstone for your loved one. They were very efficient, patient and empathic during our difficult time. Corrine made the process very smoothly for our family. Their turn around time is the fastest in the surrounding counties and their prices are very reasonable for their great quality of work. Would strongly recommend to visit their business you will not be disappointed!

I wanted a personal and meaningful grave marker for my baby. I found Vj memorials online and set up an appointment. This vendor exceeded my expectations. Corinne made the process of purchasing easy and comfortable for me and my husband. I came with my own design and Corinne was able to create a very similar one which I am very happy. She explained and answered all the questions that I had. I am truly grateful for good service she provided us.

We called VJ Memorials after speaking with another business that just didn’t feel welcoming. From the first phone call, they were kind and patient with us. We came in the next day, designed everything, and paid — the whole process was easier than we expected. She was so empathetic and kind during a hard time. We highly recommend them. Our memorial will be placed in Pomona Cemetery.

Corinne helped we right away and explained everything. Made the process so much easier. I told her exactly what I wanted and she is gonna make it happen. Best part I don’t have to wait months for headstone. The headstone will be placed at Bellevue.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Calvary

Do you handle everything with Calvary?

Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork, cemetery approval, and delivery coordination. No separate calls to Calvary on your end.

What are Calvary’s visiting hours?

Calvary’s gates are open daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in spring and summer, and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in fall and winter. For holiday hours or section access questions, call the cemetery office at (323) 261-3106.

What types of memorials are allowed at Calvary?

Calvary allows flat granite or bronze markers only. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size and section rule.

What are the setting fees at Calvary?

As of July 1, 2026, Calvary charges a setting fee of $595 for granite markers and $695 for bronze markers, paid directly to the cemetery and due before installation. Endowment care is included in that fee, not billed separately. The endowment care fund is a savings account that funds the long-term care of the grounds; every cemetery in California is required by law to maintain one.

Who installs the marker at Calvary?

Calvary’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial to the cemetery, and their team sets it level with the ground. The setting fee covers this installation.

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Calvary?

Most markers are ready in 2–4 weeks when the granite size and color are in stock. Special orders may take 3–4 months, but we’ll let you know before you place your order. We strive to keep as many sizes and colors in stock as possible.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Calvary?

On site engraving is one of our specialties at most Southern California cemeteries, but Calvary handles inscriptions on existing memorials in house through their own office. To add a name, date, or inscription to a memorial already at Calvary, contact the Calvary office directly at (323) 261-3106.

Do I have to use an LMP edge at Calvary?

No, but it is highly recommended. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge holds up better against grounds equipment over time. If you’d rather have a straight edge instead, Calvary requires a signed waiver at their office acknowledging the marker may be damaged, and they will not repair or remake it. We can walk you through both options when you’re designing your memorial.
