Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations

Holy Cross’ Rules: What’s Allowed

Holy Cross is a Catholic cemetery operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, so every memorial follows the Archdiocese’s own installation rules. Markers must be granite or bronze, only one flush-type memorial is allowed per grave, and no marking may extend above the surface of the ground, so upright monuments are not permitted here. Every memorial must include a cross, properly proportioned and worked into the design. Engraving highlights are limited to black or white lithochrome; colored paint is not permitted and any memorial finished with it will be removed. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge is highly recommended. Families who choose a straight edge instead must sign a waiver at the cemetery office acknowledging possible damage, since Holy Cross will not repair or remake a memorial installed that way.

V.J. Memorials is the place to go if you are looking for a headstone for your loved one. They were very efficient, patient and empathic during our difficult time. Corrine made the process very smoothly for our family. Their turn around time is the fastest in the surrounding counties and their prices are very reasonable for their great quality of work. Would strongly recommend to visit their business you will not be disappointed!

I wanted a personal and meaningful grave marker for my baby. I found Vj memorials online and set up an appointment. This vendor exceeded my expectations. Corinne made the process of purchasing easy and comfortable for me and my husband. I came with my own design and Corinne was able to create a very similar one which I am very happy. She explained and answered all the questions that I had. I am truly grateful for good service she provided us.

Corrine Moreno was so kind and patient with me. So helpful with offering different choices while keeping in mind my financial situation. She patiently listened to stories about my sister which really made this dreaded 1st time experience a fun therapy session! She’s the best!

We called VJ Memorials after speaking with another business that just didn’t feel welcoming. From the first phone call, they were kind and patient with us. We came in the next day, designed everything, and paid — the whole process was easier than we expected. She was so empathetic and kind during a hard time. We highly recommend them. Our memorial will be placed in Pomona Cemetery.

I had a great experience with the folks at VJ memorials. Christina was very professional and thorough. When it came down to the actual install, they were on time and the installer Steven did an absolutely amazing and careful job. We are Muslims, and they did the Islamic writing on the headstone perfect. My mom was my best friend and my world, and now that she finally has her headstone in place, it will help give me some peace and closure.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Holy Cross

Do you handle everything with Holy Cross?

Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork, cemetery approval, and delivery coordination. No separate calls to Holy Cross on your end.

What are Holy Cross’s visiting hours?

Holy Cross Cemetery is open 8:00 am to 6:00 pm in spring and summer, and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in fall and winter. For holiday hours or section access questions, call the cemetery office at (909) 627-3602.

What types of memorials are allowed at Holy Cross?

Holy Cross allows flat granite and bronze markers only. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size and section rule.

What are the setting fees at Holy Cross?

Holy Cross charges a setting fee of $595 for granite markers and $695 for bronze markers, paid directly to the cemetery and due before installation. Endowment care is included in that fee, not billed separately. The endowment care fund is a savings account that funds the long-term care of the grounds; every cemetery in California is required by law to maintain one. Fees listed as of July 1, 2026.

Who installs the marker at Holy Cross?

Holy Cross’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial to the cemetery, and their team places it level with the ground. The setting fee covers this installation.

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Holy Cross?

In-stock flat granite and bronze markers are ready in 2–4 weeks. Special orders may take 3–4 months, but we’ll let you know before you place your order. We strive to keep as many sizes and colors in stock as possible.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Holy Cross?

Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Holy Cross. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on-site engraving →

Do I have to use an LMP edge at Holy Cross?

No, but it is highly recommended. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge holds up better against grounds equipment over time. If you’d rather have a straight edge instead, Holy Cross requires a signed waiver at their office acknowledging the marker may be damaged, and they will not repair or remake it. We can walk you through both options when you’re designing your memorial.
