Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations

Holy Sepulcher’s Rules: What’s Allowed

Holy Sepulcher is a Catholic cemetery operated by the Diocese of Orange, so every memorial follows the Diocese’s memorial guidelines. Flat granite or bronze markers are standard, with one memorial per grave; upright monuments are permitted only in sections specifically designated for them. Because Holy Sepulcher is a sacred, consecrated ground, every memorial must include a properly proportioned religious cross of at least 1½ inches, and the artwork and inscription must be consonant with Catholic teaching. Management reviews the size, style, color, lettering, and artwork of every design before it’s made, and no cement borders are permitted around a marker.

Cremation / Child Marker 24″ × 12″ × 3″

The standard cremation and child marker size (some spaces may permit a smaller 20″ × 10″ × 3″). Granite at least 3″ thick with a 1/8″–1/4″ bevel edge. A cross of at least 1½ inches is built into every design.

Standard Adult Marker 28″ × 16″ × 3″

The standard flat marker for a single adult grave. Room for names, dates, an inscription, and artwork such as a portrait, scene, or floral design alongside the required cross.

Side by Side Marker 36″ × 18″ × 3″

A companion flat marker for two adjacent grave spaces, centered across both. Same 3″ granite and bevel edge specifications as the standard adult size.

Lawn Crypt 20″ × 28″ × 3″

For lawn crypt spaces, installed with two vases in cored vase holes.

Lawn Crypt Side by Side 20″ × 40″ × 3″

The companion version of the lawn crypt marker, for two adjacent lawn crypt spaces.

Upright Monument

Granite or bronze, permitted only in sections the cemetery has specifically designated for uprights. We’ll confirm whether your family’s plot qualifies before any design work begins.

V.J. Memorials is the place to go if you are looking for a headstone for your loved one. They were very efficient, patient and empathic during our difficult time. Corrine made the process very smoothly for our family. Their turn around time is the fastest in the surrounding counties and their prices are very reasonable for their great quality of work. Would strongly recommend to visit their business you will not be disappointed!

I wanted a personal and meaningful grave marker for my baby. I found Vj memorials online and set up an appointment. This vendor exceeded my expectations. Corinne made the process of purchasing easy and comfortable for me and my husband. I came with my own design and Corinne was able to create a very similar one which I am very happy. She explained and answered all the questions that I had. I am truly grateful for good service she provided us.

We called VJ Memorials after speaking with another business that just didn’t feel welcoming. From the first phone call, they were kind and patient with us. We came in the next day, designed everything, and paid — the whole process was easier than we expected. She was so empathetic and kind during a hard time. We highly recommend them. Our memorial will be placed in Pomona Cemetery.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Holy Sepulcher

Do you handle everything with Holy Sepulcher?

Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork, cemetery approval, and delivery coordination. No separate calls to Holy Sepulcher on your end.

What are Holy Sepulcher’s visiting hours?

Holy Sepulcher’s grounds are open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm during standard time, and 8:00 am to 6:00 pm during daylight saving time. For holiday hours or section access questions, call the cemetery office at (714) 532-6551.

What types of memorials are allowed at Holy Sepulcher?

Holy Sepulcher allows flat granite and bronze markers, with upright monuments permitted only in designated sections. Bronze markers must be mounted on a granite base, which is arranged separately from the marker itself. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size and the Diocese’s memorial guidelines.

What is the setting fee at Holy Sepulcher?

As of July 1, 2026, Holy Sepulcher charges a $700 setting fee on all markers, granite or bronze, billed separately from the memorial and paid directly to the cemetery. Fees listed as of July 1, 2026.

Who installs the marker at Holy Sepulcher?

Holy Sepulcher’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial, and their team handles the installation. The setting fee covers it.

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Holy Sepulcher?

In-stock flat markers are ready in 2–4 weeks. Special orders may take longer; we’ll let you know up front. Once delivered to Holy Sepulcher, the cemetery typically sets the marker within five business days.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Holy Sepulcher?

Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Holy Sepulcher. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on-site engraving →

Do memorials at Holy Sepulcher have to include a cross?

Yes. As a Catholic cemetery, Holy Sepulcher requires every memorial to include a properly proportioned religious cross of at least 1½ inches, and the artwork must reflect Catholic teaching. We design your memorial to meet these guidelines so it’s approved without delay. You can review the cemetery’s full memorial guidelines at the Diocese of Orange Cemetery Rules & Regulations.

Can we buy our headstone from VJ Memorials for Holy Sepulcher?

Yes. Families are welcome to purchase their memorial from us. We design, engrave, and supply it built to the cemetery’s requirements, and Holy Sepulcher’s own crew installs it on the grounds.
