Oak Park Cemetery was established in 1897 and has been owned and operated by the City of Claremont since 1978. Spread across roughly 12 acres at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, the park is filled with mature oak and sycamore trees, a tranquil water feature added in 2023, and a mix of flat markers and upright monuments that give it a character most modern cemeteries lack.
The cemetery office is housed in the Wright Pierce Studio, a historic 1915 structure originally built by photographer Wright McEwen Pierce in downtown Claremont and relocated to the cemetery in 1989. A 1999 dedication plaque at the entrance reads: “Oak Park Cemetery is dedicated to freedom of belief and religion. May people of all faiths find here the beauty and restful peace that they seek.”
Families from across the Pomona Valley are laid to rest here, including Claremont, La Verne, Pomona, San Dimas, Upland, Montclair, Glendora, and Rancho Cucamonga. With three expansion phases completed or approved and hundreds of new plots planned, Oak Park continues to grow with the communities it serves.
