Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations
Santa Paula Cemetery accepts flat granite markers in every section of the park, from a cremation marker to a full ledger that covers the whole grave. Upright monuments and slant markers are allowed too, but only in certain gardens: Sewell Garden, the front section of Catholic Estates, Serenity Garden, Jardin del Angel, and the north and south parts of Fagan Garden. Any edge finish is fine, from a plain polished edge to a sanded border or a polished bevel, and markers are cut 3″ thick. The cemetery keeps no printed rule sheet, so we check each family’s plot with the office before we cut the stone.
Cremation Marker 24″ × 12″ × 3″
The smallest flat marker at Santa Paula, with room for a name, dates and a small emblem. Allowed in every section.
Single Marker 28″ × 16″ × 3″
The standard adult marker for a single grave, with room for a name, dates, a short line and artwork or a portrait. Allowed in every section.
Large Single Marker 32″ × 20″ × 3″
A roomier flat marker for a single grave, with space for two names or a longer inscription and larger artwork. Allowed in every section.
Half Ledger 30″ × 39″ × 3″
A flat stone that covers the head half of the grave, with a wide writing area for a family name, verses and artwork. Allowed in every section.
Full Ledger 36″ × 72″ × 4″
A flat stone that covers the entire grave, cut 4″ thick. The largest flat memorial Santa Paula allows, and it is accepted in every section.
Slant Marker 28″ × 10″ × 16″
A low, angled stone that reads from the front. Also made 24″ × 10″ × 16″ and 36″ × 10″ × 16″. Sewell Garden, Catholic Estates (front section), Serenity Garden, Jardin del Angel and Fagan Garden (north and south) only.
Upright Monument 36″ × 12″ × 36″
A standing monument on a granite base, in the same five gardens as the slant markers. We confirm the plot with the cemetery office before we design one.
Santa Paula Cemetery allows our full palette of 18 granite colors.

What Families Say About Us
What Families Ask About Santa Paula Cemetery
Do you handle everything with Santa Paula Cemetery?
Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: we confirm with the cemetery office that your family’s plot takes the marker you chose, then bring the finished stone to Santa Paula ourselves. No separate calls to the cemetery on your end.
What are Santa Paula Cemetery’s visiting hours?
Santa Paula Cemetery’s grounds are open every day from dawn until dusk. For office hours, holiday hours or help finding a grave, call the cemetery office at (805) 525-5258.
What types of memorials are allowed at Santa Paula Cemetery?
Santa Paula Cemetery allows flat granite markers and ledgers in every section, and upright monuments and slant markers in five gardens: Sewell Garden, the front section of Catholic Estates, Serenity Garden, Jardin del Angel, and the north and south parts of Fagan Garden. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size.
What are the setting fees at Santa Paula Cemetery?
As of November 3, 2026, Santa Paula Cemetery charges an installation fee of $695 for a flat marker or ledger and $1,095 for an upright monument or slant marker. We collect the fee with your order and hand it to the cemetery when we deliver the stone, so there is nothing for you to pay at the park. The fee is separate from the cost of the memorial itself. The cemetery does not publish a fee schedule online; for the latest figures, call us at (909) 902-9000.
Who installs the marker at Santa Paula Cemetery?
Santa Paula Cemetery’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial to the cemetery, and their team sets it level with the ground. The installation fee covers this work.
How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Santa Paula Cemetery?
In-stock flat markers are ready in 2–4 weeks; upright monuments and ledgers may take a bit longer. Special orders may take longer too; we’ll let you know up front. Once delivered to Santa Paula Cemetery, the cemetery typically sets the marker within one to two weeks.
Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Santa Paula Cemetery?
Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Santa Paula Cemetery. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on-site engraving →

Santa Paula’s Cemetery Among the Orchards
Incorporated in 1903 as the Santa Paula Cemetery Association, on burial grounds the town had used since the early 1870s.
The oldest parts of the cemetery are three family sections from the 1800s: Sewell, Fagan and Mt. Olive. In 1903 the grounds were incorporated as the Santa Paula Cemetery Association, and in 1950 Ed Davis became the controlling owner and brought the original sections under endowment care, which gives the park its even, well-kept look today. After the St. Francis Dam failed in March 1928, dozens of flood victims were buried here, and a memorial on the grounds still marks the day. Newer gardens include Our Lady of Guadalupe Garden, with its 8-foot mosaic of the Virgin Mary, and the Memory Tree Cremation Garden. The cemetery hosts a Memorial Day ceremony with VFW Mercer-Prieto Post 2043 and a Día de los Muertos gathering each year, with avocado and lemon orchards on every side.
Families from across the Santa Clara River Valley use Santa Paula Cemetery, including Santa Paula, Fillmore, Saticoy, Oxnard and Ventura.
Ownership: Private. Owned and operated by Service Corporation International under the Dignity Memorial name.
