Approved Sizes and the Cemetery’s Regulations
Flat granite markers and bronze markers are allowed in every garden at Valhalla, and the same size rules apply throughout the park. Markers sit directly in the lawn, without a concrete foundation. Upright monuments and granite benches are allowed only in areas the park sets aside for them, and the park approves each design first; uprights carry their lettering on the front face only. Memorials for veterans are bronze. Each grave space can hold up to three vases.
Single Marker 24″ × 12″ × 3″
The smallest granite marker Valhalla accepts for a single grave, with room for a name, dates and a short line or emblem.
Single Marker 28″ × 16″ × 3″
The standard single adult marker, with room for a name, dates, an inscription and artwork such as a portrait or scene.
Companion Marker 44″ × 14″ × 3″
A long, low companion marker spanning two grave spaces, with both names side by side.
Side by Side Marker 36″ × 18″ × 3″
The smallest companion marker Valhalla accepts for two grave spaces, centered across both.
Companion Marker 56″ × 16″ × 3″
Our largest companion marker for two grave spaces, with extra room for artwork between the names.

Allowed only in the areas Valhalla designates for monuments, with the park’s approval of the design before it is made. Lettering on the front face only.

What Families Say About Us
What Families Ask About Valhalla
Do you handle everything with Valhalla?
Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork, cemetery approval, and delivery coordination. The one thing Valhalla asks of the family directly is the setting fee, which you pay to the park office.
What are Valhalla’s visiting hours?
Valhalla Memorial Park is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. For holiday hours or section access questions, call the cemetery office at (818) 763-9121.
What types of memorials are allowed at Valhalla?
Valhalla allows flat granite and bronze markers in every garden, and upright monuments and benches in designated areas with the park’s approval. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size and section rule.
What are the setting fees at Valhalla Memorial Park?
As of October 16, 2026, Valhalla charges a setting fee of $495 for each marker, paid by the family directly to the park office and separate from the cost of the memorial. When a marker needs a granite or concrete base, the park charges for the base as well.
Who installs the marker at Valhalla?
Valhalla’s own grounds crew. We deliver the finished memorial to the park, and their team sets flat markers level with the ground and installs monuments in their designated areas. The setting fee covers this installation.
How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Valhalla?
In-stock flat markers are ready in 2–4 weeks. Special orders may take longer; we’ll let you know up front. Once delivered to Valhalla, the park typically sets the marker within a week.
Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Valhalla?
Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Valhalla Memorial Park. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on-site engraving →
From Our Chino Factory to Valhalla
Our factory and showrooms in Chino are about 50 miles from Valhalla Memorial Park, roughly an hour on the 60 west, the 5 north and the 170. Every memorial bound for Valhalla is designed and hand-finished here in Chino, then delivered by our own team.
Since the drive from our Chino factory to Valhalla is up to an hour and a half depending on traffic, most families prefer working with us by phone. We send proofs digitally and handle the park’s approval process for you.
A San Fernando Valley Landmark
Opened in 1923, Valhalla is home to the Portal of the Folded Wings, a domed rotunda that became a shrine to aviation.
The rotunda was dedicated in 1925 as the park’s grand entrance. In 1953 it was renamed the Portal of the Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation, with pioneer aviators interred beneath its floor, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Pierce Brothers took over the park in the 1950s and joined the neighboring Restland Memorial Park to it in 1971, which is why many families still call it Pierce Brothers Valhalla. The grounds now cover 101 acres across North Hollywood and Burbank, including the Garden of Mount Ararat for Armenian families and the Mausoleum of Eternal Love, opened in 2016.
Families from across the San Fernando Valley use Valhalla Cemetery, including North Hollywood, Burbank, Studio City, Valley Village, Sun Valley, and Toluca Lake.
Ownership: Private. Operated by Dignity Memorial (Service Corporation International) since 1991, under the Pierce Brothers name.
