Carved Feather with Greek Key Border in Red Multicolor Granite
The feathers on this monument are carved in a style called bas-relief: instead of being attached afterward, they’re carved from the block itself, raised from the surface by hand before the stone is shaped and polished.
The feathers aren’t glued on; they are part of the monument. Very few carvers still do this work, and the hours it takes show in every barb of every feather.
We have a few monuments at Oak Park carved in bas-relief, and we hope you get to see one in person — photos don’t do the depth justice.
