Cemetery Regulations

What’s Allowed at Queen of Heaven

Queen of Heaven is a Catholic cemetery operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, so every memorial follows the Archdiocese’s own installation rules. Markers must be granite or bronze, only one flush-type memorial is allowed per grave, and no marking may extend above the surface of the ground, so upright monuments are not permitted here. Every memorial must include a cross, properly proportioned and worked into the design. Engraving highlights are limited to black or white lithochrome; colored paint is not permitted and any memorial finished with it will be removed. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge is highly recommended. Families who choose a straight edge instead must sign a waiver at the cemetery office acknowledging possible damage, since Queen of Heaven will not repair or remake a memorial installed that way.

Setting & Installation

Who Sets the Stone at Queen of Heaven

How It Works

What we handle: Design, engraving, and delivery. We submit your design for the cemetery office’s approval and obtain the required installation permit ahead of time, so your marker is ready to set when it arrives. Deliveries go out Monday through Friday, since Queen of Heaven only accepts them on weekdays.

Who sets the marker: Queen of Heaven’s own grounds crew sets every marker. Once we deliver the finished memorial to the cemetery, their team places it level with the ground.

Common Questions

What Families Ask About Queen of Heaven

How long does it take to get a headstone made and set at Queen of Heaven?

Most markers are ready in 2–4 weeks when the granite size and color are in stock. Special orders may take 3–4 months, but we’ll let you know before you place your order. We strive to keep as many sizes and colors in stock as possible.

What are the setting fees at Queen of Heaven?

Queen of Heaven charges a setting fee of $595 for granite markers and $695 for bronze markers, paid directly to the cemetery and due before installation. Endowment care is included in that fee, not billed separately. The endowment care fund is a savings account that funds the long-term care of the grounds; every cemetery in California is required by law to maintain one.

Do you handle the approval process with Queen of Heaven?

Yes. Every design goes through our office first. We submit your proof to the cemetery for approval and obtain the installation permit, so nothing arrives at the gate unapproved.

Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Queen of Heaven?

Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Queen of Heaven. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. Adding a second name, a death date, or a short inscription typically takes a couple of hours on site. Learn more about on-site engraving →

Do I have to use an LMP edge at Queen of Heaven?

No, but it is highly recommended. An LMP (lawn-mower-proof) edge holds up better against grounds equipment over time. If you’d rather have a straight edge instead, Queen of Heaven requires a signed waiver at their office acknowledging the marker may be damaged, and they will not repair or remake it. We can walk you through both options when you’re designing your memorial.
