Oak Park Cemetery holds the distinction of being one of only a few cemeteries that still accepts a wide variety of memorial markers, including above ground monuments, slant memorials, pillowtop markers, and flat granite markers.
Single Upright Monument
Maximum 30″H × 32″W × 12″ thick, including the base. The most popular memorial type at Oak Park.
Companion Upright Monument
Maximum 30″H × 42″W × 12″ thick, including the base. Centered between two adjacent plots.
Slant Memorial
Maximum 30″H × 32″W × 12″ thick, including the base. An angled granite memorial that sits lower than an upright but taller than a flat marker.
Pillowtop Marker
A low profile marker with a gently rounded top, sitting just above ground level. A middle option between a flat marker and a slant.
Flat Granite Marker
Minimum 24″ × 12″ × 3″ thick. A level set marker flush with the ground.

Do you handle everything with Oak Park?
Yes. We design and engrave the memorial at our Chino factory, and once you approve the design proof we take it from there: paperwork with the City’s cemetery office, approval, and delivery coordination. No separate calls to the City on your end.
What are Oak Park’s visiting hours?
The cemetery grounds are open every day from dawn until dusk. The cemetery office is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The office can be reached at (909) 399-5487.
What types of memorials are allowed at Oak Park?
Oak Park accepts upright monuments, slant memorials, pillowtop markers, and flat granite markers, which is rare in Southern California. See the Cemetery Regulations section above for every permitted size.
Why can’t I buy the headstone from the cemetery?
Oak Park is owned by the City of Claremont, and California law prohibits public cemeteries from selling memorials. Families buy the monument or marker from a monument company like ours, and the City installs it for a setting fee.
How much is the setting fee at Oak Park?
As of July 1, 2026, the City of Claremont charges the setting fee, billed separately from the memorial: currently $458 for flat markers and $620 for pillowtop, slant, or upright markers. Fees listed as of July 1, 2026.
Who installs the marker at Oak Park?
The City of Claremont’s crew. We deliver the finished memorial, and their team installs it: flat markers level with the ground, monuments and slants on their foundations. The setting fee covers this installation.
How long does it take to get a monument made and set at Oak Park?
In-stock upright monuments and slant memorials are ready in 4–8 weeks after the design is approved. Flat markers typically take 2–6 weeks. After we deliver to Oak Park, the cemetery’s crew handles the setting once the fee is on file. We handle the delivery scheduling for you.
Can I add an inscription to an existing memorial at Oak Park?
Yes. We add inscriptions to existing memorials on site at Oak Park Cemetery. We bring our portable engraving equipment right to the gravesite, so there’s no need to disturb the memorial or coordinate a removal. A Claremont Landmark Since 1897
One of the few cemeteries in Southern California that still welcomes upright monuments.
Oak Park Cemetery was established in 1897 and has been owned and operated by the City of Claremont since 1978. Spread across roughly 12 acres at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, the park is filled with mature oak and sycamore trees, a tranquil water feature added in 2023, and a mix of flat markers and upright monuments that give it a character most modern cemeteries lack.
The cemetery office is housed in the Wright Pierce Studio, a historic 1915 structure originally built by photographer Wright McEwen Pierce in downtown Claremont and relocated to the cemetery in 1989. A 1999 dedication plaque at the entrance reads: “Oak Park Cemetery is dedicated to freedom of belief and religion. May people of all faiths find here the beauty and restful peace that they seek.”
